January Seasonal Living: A Fresh New Year

While, indeed, it rings true that you most certainly do not need a new year to have a new start, create fresh goals, or begin an exciting project; it somehow seems a bit counter-intuitive to ignore the potential to start something new or the vibrant energy of a fresh start that January brings.

This time of year can offer us an opportunity to start out on new journeys, make new goals, form new habits, and prompt us to make changes in our lives that improve everything from the functionality of our pantries to the productivity of our days. And while the ideas of all the new possibilities are exciting, in my case, I have to be careful to not let myself get over-whelmed with every little thing I want to change, tweak, or improve. So, I make it a point each January to remind myself, that this life, and anything we plan to do in it, is a journey, not a race. It's just as important to enjoy the ride as it is to get to our destinations. So I do my best to set goals and plan, but also understand to be intentional about it. Setting too many goals or trying to do too many things can take the joy out of the process.

So, just in case you also need a little reminder to slow down and enjoy it all, here it is: I encourage you to make plans, set goals, and dream big...but while you do, stay true to yourself, and don't forget the really important things. Things like enjoying the morning sunrise as your sip your coffee, watching the kids giggle as they play amongst the daily mess, that fresh smell outside when the sun first comes out after a good rainstorm, or the way it feels to sit back at the end of the day and enjoy a glass of wine or cup of hot tea by candlelight as your favorite music plays in the background. Just remember to enjoy life. Because it's not the large accomplishments and big productions that make the day part of living...it's the simple moments of living acknowledged during the day.

All that being said, January isn't just about resolutions and goal setting, it's also a time to rejuvenate, relax, and enjoy the winter season. So, in an effort to share how I like to live seasonally during the month of January, I have put together a few of my favorites things to share with you today that I enjoy during the first month of the year.

The Perfect Time for a New Planner

January is THE time to get those tools that will keep you organized throughout the year. Starting out with goals and a plan is great, but if you don't have the things you need to keep those daily to-dos organized, than you are not likely to stay on track.

So a good planner (or planning system,) that works for you is imperative to your success. I am a bit of a self-proclaimed planner nerd, and I take great pride in the products I use to keep me from pulling out my hair, or throwing in the towel, when things get hectic.

I have a few YouTube videos coming to my channel detailing my planner and planning process in the new year, and I will be sure to share them here on the blog too. So, keep an eye out for those.

But for now, here are a few of my favorites for 2021...

Winter Home Decor

Once the holiday decor is packed away at the beginning of the year, I know some like to transition straight into valentines day (and I get it; pink and red are two of my favorite colors,) but I like to take a moment and really enjoy the coziness and tranquility that fresh winter decor can bring to the home.

So for the month of January, I usually keep the decor in my home neutral with a focus on the colors that nature brings us in the winter; lots of white tones and even soft powder blues. I also like to keep a focus on soft textiles and textures. This coupled with candles and cozy fragrance, really brings warmth into the home this time of year.

Home Organization Goals

"Clear house, clear mind"... you know if you've ever taken a space from cluttered to clean, the saying really does ring true.

With fresh goals on our minds, and potential change on the horizon, a new year often brings the urge to purge and refresh those spaces we've cluttered, and possibly left unkept throughout the hustle and bustle of the previous year.

I see organizing in January and February as a prelude to spring cleaning. It gets you ready for that yearly deep cleaning to-do list, and primes those tired spaces in the home for productivity.

I have an organizational plan for each room in my house this year, and I do plan to share it all here on the blog, AND on my YouTube channel. So expect exciting, and clutter-free, home posts very soon.

Below I have shared some of the organizational items that I have been craving this January.

Time to enjoy the cozy

Winter is still here, and for many parts of the world, it's not leaving us anytime soon. While the cold weather can seem to be daunting at times, I think it's a great opportunity to really bring calm and cozy daily practices to your life that can leave you relaxed and renewed.

Things like soft----yet stylish---loungewear, a good pair of slippers, calming scents, warm candles, quality bath products, and good reads can all be a form of self-care that makes your at-home winter experience renewing and revitalizing.

January 8th: Bubble Bath Day

I mean, if there was a better excuse than "Bubble Bath Day" to get in the bath, take a little "me-time," and enjoy some luxury bath products, I don't know what is. (THANK YOU to whoever put this gem of a holiday on the calendar.)

Just in case you are looking for things that will elevate that already--near--perfect bath time experience, I have shared some of my favorites below.

A Fresh New Fitness Routine (and Gear)

New Year, New You. I know it can seem cliche, but I say WHO CARES!

If the new year is what you need to get your butt into cute fitness gear, and tackle those goals you've been thinking about while you were stuffing your face with holiday treats this December (no, just me???) then GO FOR IT! I think the only right time to start is when YOU are ready to go after what you want for yourself. And if that time is now, then girlfriend, let me share some of my newest fitness finds to get you going.
