I'm extremely excited to introduce a new series to my blog called "What to Wear"
I really want this little style inspired site to be a place not just of outfit inspiration, but a resource for those of you who would love to take the guess work out of trying to find the right outfit for a certain occasion or event.
Since it's almost winter, and the holiday season is here, I thought I'd kick this series off with a post with a an outfit for a winter wedding.
Before I show you what I am wearing to a wedding this month, here are a few shopping tips for when you're looking for that perfect winter wedding guest outfit:
1. Look for textures and fabrics of the season. Velvet, sequins, and sparkles are what winter wear is made of. A wedding or special occasion is the perfect excuse to buy that velvet dress or that sequin clutch you've been eyeing (or both.)
2. Pay attention to color palettes. Winter is a great time to wear deep Burgundy and berry tones as well as bright reds, rich greens, and pale blues.
3. When in doubt wear...navy. I always say if you can't decide on a dress go with an LBD (little black dress,) but during the winter I think choosing a beautifully deep navy ensemble in a great fabric is always a winner.
4. Try sticking with solids instead of patterned pieces. Patterns can be too over done and take away the elegance of a semi formal to formal outfit. I suggest looking for textured fabrics such as velvet or accessorizing with statement pieces such as bold earrings or an embellished clutch.
There's something so magical to me about a romantic winter wedding.
I just love to celebrate love during the holidays, but it can be a bit tricky when it comes to attending an event that requires dressing up a bit when it's chilly outside.
Luckily in South Texas it's not absolutely freezing basically ever, but winter nights can get in the low 20s at times so while I want to be fashionable, I also want to be comfortable without a coat on. My first pick does just that. This layered dress from Anthropologie gives me all the Wintery Alice in Wonderland vibes. It's soft and comfortable yet elegant enough for a wedding that is semi formal to formal (sans black tie of course, for that you'd want to go with a gown.)
