This time of year, somehow my memories always take me back to old dirt roads, hot late summer nights, fireworks, friendship, country music, fireflies in the yard and burgers on the grill.

Growing up, each July, like clockwork, my mom would come home with an Old Navy flag t-shirts for each of us to wear on the 4th (mandatory, of course). Now that I am grown, I look back on the summer memories and celebrations I had growing up, and I treasure them all. When we think back on moments like this, we’re reminded that the days are slow, but the years are fast. That memories are made in the small moments we don’t realize are slipping by.

There’s a sense of pride that swells in my heart this time of year. When I decorate my home for the 4th of July season, I always try to capture that feeling. I try to take it back to the “good ole’ days,” because I know now—those slow summer evenings in the ’90s, when my parents would sit on the porch with the neighbors, talking about a whole lot of nothing while the kids played in the sprinklers ‘til the sun went down—that was the good life. And down here in the South, it still is.

Life moves fast. Children grow up. Time goes by before we even notice. We rush through the seasons and fill our calendars with to-dos. But something shifts in the summertime.

At the beginning of every July, somewhere between the small towns, the celebrations, and the sweet summertime memories… you remember exactly why you love this country so much.

Freedom isn’t just a word, it’s a gift, earned by the courage of those who were willing to fight for it.

Today, we remember. We celebrate. We give thanks. Forever grateful for the freedom we enjoy, the traditions we hold dear, and the pride of calling this nation home.

So if you want to slow down this season, and you’re looking for a little decorating inspiration, I’d love for you to join me over on YouTube.

Wishing you a very Happy 4th of July. 🇺🇸
